For girls with broad shoulders, a strapless prom dress with an A-line skirt is a great way to slim the torso and add angles at your mid-section, creating hips and a waist.

Alternatively, a deep V-shape halterneck or empire-line dress with a high ruched waistband will make a thick waist appear thinner. Empire-line styles create a high waistline just under the bust making the body look longer and slimmer.
