Putting together your guest list should be one of your first tasks. It's important to allow parents to invite guests of their own, especially if they are contributing financially to your wedding.
A guest list should be fair, with numbers relatively equally split between you and your fiance.
Bear in mind that an initial list may need to be shortened. Guests cost money so a large guest list will generally mean you either need to extend your budget or cut down on other areas.
Set rules and stick to them. If you don't invite some children, for example, you shouldn't really invite any at all.
Don't rely on a large number of people not being able to make it. People rarely turn down wedding invitations and you don't want to have more guests than your wedding can accommodate!
If your list is longer than you'd like, put together a 'b' list. These are guests you can invite when you receive any refusals (although clearly people should never know they're on a 'b' list!).
Consider having separate evening guests, or even a small wedding and a party when you return from honeymoon. If you decide to invite guests in the evening only, they need to be catered for so you should add this to your budget.
