In these credit-crunch times, you need all the help you can get; here’s ten top tips on how to save money on your dream wedding

According to online wedding website provider Weddingpath.co.uk, the average cost of a wedding in the UK is at a whopping £15,244, including the reception (£5,000) and the honeymoon (£4,500). It makes sense to make cutbacks where you can but how can you have your perfect wedding without sacrificing the all-important details?

They've put together their top 10 money saving tips to help slash that budget:

1. Avoid peak wedding season - most weddings take place from May – October, so any other month is cheaper.
2. Daylight savings - reception halls charge the highest fees from 7pm on a Saturday night, so consider a daytime reception, or Friday night.
3. Cut the cake – choose a smaller version of your dream wedding cake, then get a cheaper, sheet cake in the same flavour that can be portioned out behind the scenes and served to guests.
4. Non-fancy foliage – stick to seasonal flowers and use more greens and fewer blooms. Avoid decorating the church and save flowers for the reception.
5. Dress for less – a new dress costs thousands so consider hiring one. For bridesmaids, you may be able to buy dresses direct from the manufacturer at a fraction of the cost.
6. Party on – catering is a major cost, so limit the official reception to a few people and then have a party in the evening for others.
7. Don’t tell suppliers – firms seem to add extra charges once they know you’re enquiring about a wedding. Try to agree fees before you tell them the occasion.
8. Cut price photography – hire a photographer only for the formal photos, and let your guests take all the snaps at the reception
9. Phone a friend – do you know any florists / musicians / photographers / hairdressers or someone who owns a flash car? Get your friends involved; they’ll be thrilled to help out.
10. Online wedding website – save a tree, save time and build your own wedding website through weddingpath.co.uk when you mail your invitations, all you will have to put is the web address to your very own site. Guests can RSVP online and upload their photos from your big day onto your site.
